Ex-MAS exec allowed to challenge IRD decision

KUALA LUMPUR: A former Malaysia Airlines (MAS) manager has been allowed to challenge the refusal by the Industrial Relations Department to accept her representation over her dismissal.

This case will help employees who are dismissed from their jobs to know when to consider the 60-day time limit to make their representation to the department.

Yesterday, High Court (Appellate and Special Powers) judge Justice Asmabi Mohamad granted leave to Sharifah Nazriah Sayed Mahadi for a judicial review after hearing submissions by parties in chambers.

Her lawyer Sunil Vijayan said the case would help employees who had been dismissed from their jobs to know when the 60-day time limit starts and ends.

He said these employees also had to go through internal process for an appeal over the decision by their respective employers.

A disciplinary inquiry terminated Sharifah Nazriah’s service on April 16 last year for misconduct.
