PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is suing PJ Utara MP Tony Pua and MediaRakyat portal owner Chan Chee Kong for defamation.

Najib filed the suit through Messrs Hafarizam Wan & Aisha Mubarak at the KL High Court civil registry on Thursday.

A copy of the suit was served on the defendants’ solicitors on Friday. This was confirmed by lawyer Gobind Singh Deo who tweeted that the writ was served at 4.30pm.

In the lawsuit, Najib said Pua had delivered a speech at a DAP fund-raising dinner on Nov 3 last year relating to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) where the latter had slandered him.

He said the speech was then uploaded by Chan or his agents onto MediaRakyat's YouTube channel and MediaRakyat's webpage.

Najib is seeking an apology, retraction of the statement and compensation.

Pua later said that the suit had been served on his lawyer Gobind Singh Deo and that he would contest the suit.
