PSM’s Arutchelvan arrested for sedition

PETALING JAYA: Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) secretary-general S. Arutchelvan (pic) has been arrested for offences under the Sedition Act.

According to a post on PSM’s Facebook page, police officers from the Dang Wangi station also confiscated his computer, modem and mobile phone.

When contacted by The Star Online at 6pm, Arutchelvan said that there were about 10 policemen waiting outside his home in Kajang to arrest him.

“I was told that I am being arrested under the Sedition Act,” he said.

When contacted, City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Zainuddin Ahmad confirmed that Arutchelvan was arrested at about 7pm and was being brought to the station.

According to a news report last week, Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said that Arutchelvan and two others would be detained under the Sedition Act over comments made on Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy conviction.
