Snatch thief held during 'exchange' with victim

A SNATCH thief called his victim to return the loot in exchange for a bag which he had left behind at the scene of the crime in Segamat, China Press reported.

The victim agreed. The thief showed up for the exchange and was promptly arrested.

The victim received the call from the thief while she was making a police report two hours after the incident.

The thief had snatched the bag while the victim was having a meal in a coffee shop at 2pm on Friday.

The victim’s friend, however, managed to grab a bag belonging to the thief with his MyKad inside.

The thief later found the victim’s number in the handbag and called her, asking to “settle the matter quietly”.

The thief was arrested when he came with his wife and two children to make the exchange.

> The daily also reported that a woman was made to stand in public with a “I am the queen of thieves” placard hanging around her neck.

The woman was earlier caught by the public for allegedly stealing purses from shoppers at a morning market in Kepong and paraded with the placard while waiting for the police.

It is learned that she was caught by the public after they suspected her of trying to cut open a handbag of a shopper with a blade.

> Kwong Wah Yit Poh reported that a couple had thrown a stack of 100 yuan (RM52) notes out of their 10th floor apartment in Wuhan during an argument.

Passers-by rushed to pick up the money that was dropping from the sky at about 11am on Saturday.

The apartment’s security guards managed to find 1,900 yuan (RM993) and handed it over to social workers.

When the social workers visited the quarrelling couple to return the money, the couple admitted that the money was theirs, but said they were not in the mood to take back the money as they were still arguing.
