KOTA KINABALU: A community-based group has “recovered and restored” an 8ha stretch of riverbank reserve along the Kinabatangan river that was encroached on by an oil palm reserve by planting it with native trees.
The community eco-tourism cooperative known as Kopel took two weeks to uproot some 400 oil palm trees and replace them with 4,600 native trees after the Sabah government gave it the green light to take the land back.
