PETALING JAYA: Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, the political-secretary to Gelang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang, has denounced netizens for sharing photos of a bikini-clad woman, claiming that it was her.
The 27-year-old denied the accusations on Thursday, saying she was not the person pictured.
It was later clarified by netizens defending Dyana that the photos are of Filipina actress Pauleen Luna.
The images started circulating soon after rumours arose that Dyana might be fielded as a candidate in the upcoming Teluk Intan by-election.
Dyana, however, said that she was not aware of the candidacy and did not know whether she would be running for the seat.
“I am disappointed that people will act so low to tarnish my image for political reasons after rumours of me contesting spread. But I accept that good people will always be victimised. I am in politics to serve the people,” she said.
Dyana also received abusive calls and SMS after the pictures made rounds on the Internet.
She urged those responsible to accord more respect towards women.
The Teluk Intan by-election will be held on May 31 with nomination on May 19 following the death of its MP Seah Leong Peng, 48, from bladder cancer on May 1.
Seah won the seat in the 2013 general election, polling 27,399 votes to beat Barisan Nasional's Mah Siew Kong (20,086) and Independent candidate K. Moralingam (279).
