PETALING JAYA: A fire broke out in the engine room of a ship carrying a cargo of diesel, two nautical miles off Northport in Port Klang, at around 1pm Monday.
Fire and Rescue department and marine police however, averted disaster by successfully bringing the blaze under control before it could reach the cargo.
Selangor Fire and Rescue department operations director Mohd Sani Harul said initial investigations suggest the fire was due to engine failure.
“Ten officers on two marine police boats, led by PKPgB Mohd Yusri Yusof, were dispatched to the ship and successfully put out the fire there at around 1.39pm. Thankfully, did not spread to the diesel,” Mohd Sani said.
The blaze destroyed 25% of the 24 metre-long ship, he said.Already a subscriber? Log in
