KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Minister has come out in support of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, who said that the police would not be taking any action against the man who allegedly "abducted" his son two days after the High Court had granted custody to his ex-wife.
"I stand by what the IGP said," said Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, when asked on his opinion the matter at a press conference after giving a talk at the Putrajaya Forum held in conjunction with the Defence Services Asia exhibition on Monday.
Khalid was reported as saying that this was because the man, Izwan Abdullah, 31, had converted to Islam and had obtained a custody order from the Syariah Court last year.
"As there are two clashing court orders on the matter, we will wait for the courts to decide," Khalid was reported as saying.
Khalid also said that the child was not in any danger as he was with his father.
The High Court last week awarded custody of both children to Izwan’s ex-wife S. Deepa, 31, after deciding that the law that had jurisdiction over matters pertaining to a civil marriage was the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act.
