BESUT: It was a case of biting the hand that fed him. A hardware proprietor stumbled upon two suspected burglars at his shop in Kampung Raja here.
One of the burglars was none other than his 37-year-old son. The man was resorting to theft to feed his drug addiction.
As the drug addict, accompanied by an accomplice, escaped in a van about 1am from the shop last Wednesday, the 66-year-old proprietor was left with a painful dilemma: to lodge a police report or sweep the matter under the carpet.
The businessman decided to do the former as this would mean rehabilitating his son.
Three days later, the police nabbed the son and the suspected accomplice, and recovered five toilet bowls and five rolls of wire, which were stolen from the shop.
Besut acting police chief DSP Noor Zainy Mohd Noor said on Monday that the suspects were detained based on the proprietor's report.
The suspects tested positive for methamphetamine. - Bernama
