Supporters from both sides of the political divide go all out to woo voters until the last minute.

KAJANG: Traffic near polling stations in Kajang almost came to a halt as people came out in droves to cast their votes.

The elderly and wheelchair-bound were among the first to arrive.

Candidates – PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and MCA vice-president Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun – visited polling stations to greet voters.

MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and party leaders also visited polling stations to lend their support to Chew.

The event also saw supporters from both sides of the political divide going all out to woo voters.

Polling started at 8am and ended at 5pm yesterday.

The Kajang state by-election came eight months after the general election last year when PKR assemblyman Lee Chin Cheh resigned in January.

There are 39,278 registered voters in the state seat, comprising 19,050 (48.5%) Malays, 15,823 (40.28%) Chinese, 4,040 (10.29%) Indians.

The rest are Sabah and Sarawak bumiputra and orang asli.
