Alor Setar plays host to country’s biggest UTC

ALOR SETAR: The state capital now has a new landmark called the Kedah Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) Complex.

Located in Jalan Kolam Air, the RM50mil centre takes up 23,226 sq metres at the Alor Setar City Council Complex and is rated as the biggest UTC in the country compared to the others in Malacca, Kuala Lumpur, Perak and Pahang.

Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the centre reflected the good relationship between the Federal and state governments, and it should benefit the people.

“This UTC is the first one that we are opening after the 13th general election.

“It was the right investment after Kedahans gave us the mandate,” the Prime Minister said during the official opening of the UTC here yesterday.

Also present were Mentri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir, Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah and Alor Setar Mayor Datuk Mat Noh Ahmad.

Najib said besides having various Federal and state agencies located under one roof at Kedah UTC, the centre also had a community service desk where community leaders could apply to join activities organised by government agencies.

“I hope Kedah UTC will become a new landmark for Alor Setar.

“It has various services and facilities that will keep the centre alive and vibrant all day long,” he said.

Mukhriz, in his speech, said there were 32 Federal and 11 state agencies at Kedah UTC operating from 8.30am to 10pm daily except on public holidays.

“This is the only UTC that provides dental services to its customers under the 1Malaysia clinic. It also has a futsal court for youths,” he said.

To mark the occasion, Najib announced the renaming of the Alor Setar City Council Complex as the UTC Complex.
