GATHERING OF CYCLISTS

THE OCBC Cycle Malaysia is taking place today and tomorrow at the KLCC. The two-day event, which is also the country’s largest get-together of cycling enthusiasts, have attracted more than 5,000 participants, both local and foreign. In the main event tomorrow, Sports and Youth Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek will flag off cyclists in the 48km challenge and 24km community ride. DOGGIE PICNIC

Calling all dog lovers! Adopt a puppy or bring your pets for an outdoor picnic and contribute to a good cause at a pet gathering themed “Love is All Around” at Central Park, Bandar Utama today from 9am to 1pm. Organised by property investment firm, Vision International Properties, the main aim of this community event is to raise funds for the Second Chance animal shelter and to encourage the public to opt for adoption instead of buying a pet. All funds collected will be channelled directly to the Second Chance animal shelter. Donations especially dog food are welcomed as the shelter is running short of supply for its 250 dogs. CNY FUN AT MALL

Have a fun family time at Sunway Pyramid with the various activities organised. There will be a Spring Flower Market by Fleurs where you can get flowers to decorate your house for the upcoming Chinese New Year, browse the auspicious plants or buy a gift for your family, friends and loved ones. Learn more about Chinese Calligraphy by signing up for a workshop held at 1pm until Feb 8. Visitors can also learn how colourful sand layers are placed in a bottle that when pieced together, creates a beautiful image. The sand bottle is also available for sale from RM20 onwards at the Concourse. The workshop is conducted by a Syrian whose family has kept the art of sand bottling in its family for generations.

RAKAN KL WALK 6

Spend your Saturday learning more about Kuala Lumpur by joining Rakan KL Walk 6 where they will be walking through some characteristic streets and neighbourhoods of the inner city. The walk is from 10am to 12.30pm. Those who are interested can gather at Lai Foong Restaurant at the junction of Jalan T.H.S Lee and Jalan T.T.C Lock. After the walk, immerse yourself at the photo and art exhibition at 3f Wisma Methodist, Lorong Hang Jebat which is open from 10am to 5pm. The photographs and sketches of the city were taken by Rakan KL members and are available for sale. From 2pm to 4pm, join the open discussion on the theme ‘Beyond Aesthetics: Art as Activism’. WORLD of MASKS

Get to know the many masks in the world at the the World Masks Exhibition: 1001 Expression at the National Musuem, Kuala Lumpur. The exhibition is on until March 20. SEASON’S DRUMS

Catch the elite and professional Hands Percussion team as they drum oriental and melodic Chinese New Year tunes through their fiery drums. The performance will have at least 10 drummers and will be for duration of 25 minutes. Head over to Jalan SS21/50 Damansara Utama playground for Healthy PJ Health Carnival tomorrow from 8.30am to 12.30pm. There will be health checks, including blood pressure, blood glucose, uric acid, cholesterol and BMI tests and consultation with a certified nutritionist by 1Malaysia PJ Service Team. THE MYTH OF AGEING

Calling all health freaks! Join a public talk by Rico Ricketts, a 70-year-old health and wellness coach, who is also Friends to Mankind Ambassador from Canada as he shares how it is more than merely nutrition and eating patterns, but also a state of empowering oneself that can break the myth of ageing. He will also be joined by Dr Rajbans Singh, Malaysia’s prominent consultant geriatrician, president of Malaysia Wellness Society, who will be speaking on “The 10 Points on Healthy Ageing”.
