Gymnast Jia Huai stamps her mark in MSSM meet

PETALING JAYA: Selangor’s Low Jia Huai continued her dominance at the MSSM (national schools) rhythmic gymnastics championship in Port Dickson.

Jia Huai won a total of three gold and one bronze medals in the senior category at the Dewan Wawasan, Port Dickson Polytechnic on Wednesday.

The 16-year-old bagged gold in the clubs event (12.350), all-round individual category (37.983) and the team event (for all events - ribbon, hoop, clubs, ball) with team-mates Alice Masdewi Cheah, Loo Shiow Yng and Yap Qian Ling, who had a total score of 97.450.

She could only manage a bronze in the ribbon event with 11.700. The gold went to her team-mate Alice Masdewi Cheah on 12.300 while Yang Dina Khistina Kamarul Bahrin (Federal Territory) took the silver with 11.750 points.

In the junior category, Olivia Tai Qing Tong (FT) pipped team-mate Shasangari Sivaneswary Nagarajan to the gold medal for the all-round individual event based on higher execution marks, a difference of just 0.8 points after the two gymnasts were tied at 43.133. Koi Sie Yan of Pahang took home the bronze with 40.083.

Olivia and Shasangari were also part of the FT team, with Izzah Amzan and Dania Imanina Kamarul Bahrin, who took home the gold in the team event with a score of 111.799.

Meanwhile, in the pre-junior category, Selangor made a clean sweep of the medals in the ribbon event when Fong Wan Qin, Tai Ushyan and Rachel Chengrui Qi took home the gold (10.250), silver (10.100) and bronze (10.050) respectively.
