West Ham sign Portugal defender Fonte from Southampton

LONDON (Reuters) - West Ham United have captured Portugal's Euro 2016 winner Jose Fonte from Southampton on a 2-1/2-year contract for eight million pounds, the London club said on Friday.

The central defender, who has the option to sign for another season, had not featured for Southampton since handing in a transfer request earlier this month.
