PETALING JAYA: Johor football are again in the limelight – once more for the wrong reasons.
On Saturday, manager On Jabbar of Premier League side Johor Darul Ta’zim II (JDT II) allegedly punched referee Sukri Abdul Rahman after a 2-2 draw with UiTM at the Pasir Gudang Stadium. A disgruntled On punched Sukri as he was walking off the pitch, leaving the match official with a bloodied nose.
On had to be pulled away by police officers to prevent the incident from turning ugly.
FAM general-secretary Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin confirmed receiving a verbal report on what transpired at the Pasir Gudang Stadium.
“I have been verbally informed about the incident. The official report is expected to come in on Monday (today),” said Hamidin on Sunday.
“We take this matter seriously and we will conduct a thorough investigation. We will take strict action against the guilty party,” he added.
Meanwhile, a JDT II official said that they will send an official complaint on Sukri’s poor refereeing to the FAM.
Earlier this month, Johor’s Super League side JDT were fined RM30,000 by the FAM for failing to provide adequate security at the Larkin Stadium during their FA Cup second-round match against T-Team on Feb 1.
On that occasion, T-Team striker Evaldo Goncalves, defender Fabio Flor de Azevado and fitness coach Stefano Impagliazzo alleged they were assaulted by a top Johor FA official and his bodyguard while walking through the tunnel to their dressing room during half time.
