Tunku Ismail: I’m not disciplined enough to be FAM president

PETALING JAYA: Johor Football Association (JFA) president Tunku Ismail Idris Sultan Ibrahim has rubbished talk about his interest in contesting the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president’s post.

The Crown Prince of Johor had been rumoured to be keen to vie for the top post when FAM hold their 50th Congress on May 25.

But Tunku Ismail shot down the suggestion, saying, “I’m not disciplined enough to be FAM president”.

“I’m very young ... there’s still a long way for me to go and I have not thought that far yet,” said Tunku Ismail, after watching the Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) players’ training session at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya on Friday.

The 29-year-old said that his immediate target is to improve Johor football.

Tunku Ismail also said that he is happy with JDT’s performance in the M-League and that he does not plan to sign any new players during the second transfer window from March 23-April 21.

“We have set a blueprint on how to improve the game in Johor and it will be done in stages. Announcements will be made soon, after the details are sorted out,” he said.

“I’m happy with the team’s performance and it’s up to coach Cesar Jimenez to decide whether we need to sign new players.”

Commenting on FAM’s investigation on JDT for breaching article 28.1 of FAM’s disciplinary code, Tunku Ismail said, “I have not read FAM’s letter”.

JDT have been given a week to respond to FAM’s charge.

“I have not been to my office and have not read my mail. Maybe it’s in my office and I’ll read it when I return.”
