No Malaysian Open bowling c’ships this year

PETALING JAYA: There will be no Malaysian Open bowling championships this year.

The Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) have decided not to stage the 39th edition in May due to upgrading works at the Sunway Mega Lanes. The 50-lane alley is the venue for bowling for the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games from Aug 19-31.

“It would be inconvenient for us to host such a big-scale championships with the renovations going on at the venue,” said MTBC secretary-general George Tan.

This is the second time that the Malaysian Open is not staged. In 1994, it was also scrapped.

Malaysian Rafiq Ismail was the winner of the men’s Open while compatriot Sin Li Jane lifted the women’s crown.
