Way too laid back in the midst of hot oil


MALAYSIANS love their goreng pisang, yau char kwai, deep-fried chicken and vadai, especially if it is served piping hot. At pasar malam and open air morning markets, these are highly sought items.

Whenever I go to such markets, and observe how these favourite foods are prepared, I cringe and utter quietly to myself that “an ugly accident is just waiting to happen.” And I stay quite a distance away from where the action is.
