Express boat catches fire at wharf terminal in Sibu


SIBU: An express boat was totally damaged after it caught fire at a wharf terminal here Wednesday (Nov 14) morning.

State Fire and Rescue Services Department in its daily update said another express boat which was berthed beside it at the Jalan Khoo Peng Loong express wharf terminal was fortunate at its damage was only 10% due to the quick action of firemen who managed to douse the raging flame.

The department had received a distress call at 6.40am and immediately despatched nine firemen to the scene.

They towed the two boats to the middle of Igan River to douse the flame which took them 30 minutes to do so.

There were no passengers in both boats as they were scheduled to leave for Kapit later in the day.

Bomba is investigating the cause of the fire.
