Uprooted trees to grow into street art

Stumped by artwork: According to Tan (inset) the works of the 16 sculptors from around the world will become public street art like this one at the corner of Penang Road and Magazine Road, Penang. — GARY CHEN/The Star

GEORGE TOWN: They fell, but they are not gone. Most of the decades-old trees uprooted by the storm in Penang in November last year were salvaged as logs that are at least the height of an adult human.

More than 100 logs from these angsana or rain trees felled by the storm that wrecked havoc and brought massive flooding, especially to mainland Penang, will soon be transformed into beautiful art pieces by wood sculptors from around the world.
