Jamal gives brief media conference before remand

SHAH ALAM: Red Shirts leader Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos (pic) gave a brief press conference moments before he was brought to court to be remanded on Friday.

The Sungai Besar Umno division chief and seven of his supporters, all of whom were handcuffed, arrived at the Shah Alam magistrate's court at about 11am.

Wearing a black jacket over a red shirt and dark blue jeans, Jamal then proceeded to speak to journalists before he was taken to the concourse area outside the court house.

''My friends and I who are arrested might end up being charged and thrown in jail but we don't care. The fight against beer festivals will go on.

''Our arrest today does not even deter our determination to see beer festivals from being cancelled, banned and not allowed in Selangor,'' he said.

On Thursday, Shah Alam police received complaints from security guards following Jamal's protest outside the Selangor state secretariat building over the cancelled Better Beer Festival 2017.

Jamal had arrived at about 10am, with some 20 supporters and a pickup truck filled with crates of beer, only to find the gates closed.

He then proceeded to smash several crates of beer with a sledgehammer outside the gates.

After destroying the crates, Jamal and his group ignored calls by a security officer to clear the broken bottles outside the gate.

Police are investigating the case under Section 143 of the Penal Code for unlawful assembly and Section 268 for public nuisance.

If found guilty, Jamal could face a jail term of up to six months or a fine, or both.
