Man arrested for impersonating late Johor prince


JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested a 38-year-old man for impersonating the late Tunku Abdul Jalil Sultan Ibrahim and posting offensive remarks against him on Facebook.

State police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said they received a report on the matter at around 9.55am on Monday.

He said the suspect was detained at around 12.45pm on Wednesday near the Larkin area here.

"The case is being investigated under Section 419 of the Penal Code for cheating by impersonation," he said in a statement.

He added that if convicted, the suspect faces a maximum of seven years in jail, a fine or both.

"I would like to urge the members of the public to refrain from misusing social media as stern action will be taken against offenders," he said.

Tunku Abdul Jalil died on Dec 5, 2015 at the age of 25 after battling with liver cancer.
