Tastier dimsum.my offerings after Star Media Group inks deal with Shanghai Media Group

PETALING JAYA: Star Media Group Bhd has inked a strategic partnership with Shanghai Media Group, adding an exciting line-up of Chinese content on dimsum, a video on demand service.

The memorandum of understanding signed on Tuesday formalised the collaboration between the groups, which began earlier this year.

While it detailed an initial cooperation period of two years for exchange of content on each other's digital distribution platforms, both media groups are committed to explore more areas of cooperation and to jointly explore and promote content across the South-East Asian region.

As Star Media Group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai put it, "Good things come in pairs".

A partnership agreement was also signed between Shanghai Media Group's Shanghai Wings Media Co Ltd and dimsum, operated by SMG Entertainment Sdn Bhd, to provide simulcast titles including variety shows, documentaries, lifestyle programmes, film and drama series.

Expressing his excitement over the partnership, Wong said it was an affirmation of dimsum's commitment to bring the best Asian content and streaming experience to the audience.

"Content currently available on dimsum are Go Fighting! Seasons 1, 2 and 3, Flowers on Trip with China, Who's the King, Talent Singer Season 2, House of Dreams Season 2, Super Asia and Golden Night," he said.

He Xiao Lan, vice president of Shanghai Oriental Pearl Group and general manager of Shanghai Wings Media said the partnership represents the group's commitment to enhance relationship between China and Malaysia via content exchange.

Shanghai Media Group is one of China's largest media and cultural conglomerates.

The group's businesses span operations of radio and TV networks, signal transmission, newspapers and magazines, drama and film production and distribution, OTT and streaming, IPTV, online and console gaming, digital advertising, home shopping and e-commerce, and more.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong was the guest of honour at the event to witness the signing ceremony.

Also present were Star Media Group chairman Datuk Fu Ah Kiow and the Chinese Embassy's chief of political section first secretary Qian Junjun.

dimsum is currently available in Malaysia and Brunei via mobile and web applications as well as Chromecast and AirPlay, with subscription priced at only RM15 a month.

All new subscribers enjoy 30 days of free access.
