Daughter was caned by HM until she bled, claims mum

MELAKA: A housewife is seeking justice for her eight-year-old daughter who was allegedly caned by the headmistress of a vernacular school in Alor Gajah near here.

The 38-year-old claimed her daughter’s back was bleeding profusely when she returned from school on June 22.

“I went to the school the same day to seek an explanation from the headmistress but she refused to reply and was rude to me,” she said.

She decided to lodge a police report yesterday.

She claimed that several people approached her to withdraw the report and offered to compensate for her daughter’s medical ex­­penses but she refused.

“I am a housewife and my husband is an odd-job labourer but we have dignity and can’t be bought with money,” she said.

She said her daughter refused to go to school since the incident.

Alor Gajah OCPD Supt A. Asmadi Abd Aziz said investigations had been initiated.

“We will pass the investigation papers to the deputy public prosecutor,” he said.

State Education, Higher Learning, Science and Green Technology Committee chairman Datuk Wira Md Yunos Husin said the state Education Department would be lodging a report against the headmistress, adding that it was not the first time a complaint had been made against her.
