PETALING JAYA: Datuk Zakaria Arshad has congratulated Tan Sri Sulaiman Mahbob for his appointment as the new acting chairman of Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV).
"In reference to the statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office on Felda Global Ventures Holdings, I would like to congratulate the appointment of Tan Sri Sulaiman Mahbob as the acting chairman of Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd," said Zakaria, who has been suspended from his posts as FGV's president and chief executive officer.
He added in a statement issued on Monday that he will abide by the recommendations in Datuk Seri Idris Jala’s report.
The Government had appointed Idris as an independent party to establish the facts on the decision by FGV's board to suspend Zakaria.
Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced the appointment of Sulaiman, who is FGV's director, as the company's acting chairman.
He replaces Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad, who will be the acting chairman of the Public Land Transport Commission (SPAD).
On June 6, the FGV board decided that Zakaria and three other FGV officers were to take an indefinite leave of absence.
The board’s decision came a day after Zakaria was told to resign by Mohd Isa following a series of board meetings since May 31 concerning delayed payments owed to Delima Oil Products Sdn Bhd by Safitex Trading LLC, an Afghan company.
Zakaria hit back via a series of separate media interviews, claiming he did nothing wrong.
He had called on the MACC to investigate allegations of improprieties in FGV.
On its internal domestic inquiry which was initiated by Mohd Isa, Zakaria expressed confidence that he would be proven innocent.
