Sivarasa tenders apology to Selangor Sultan over speech

SHAH ALAM: Subang MP R. Sivarasa has apologised to Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah in a personal letter on Monday.

The PKR lawmaker said the letter explained what actually transpired during an event to present aid to the people at Masjid An Nur in Kampung Melayu Subang last Wednesday.

“In the letter, I have explained to Tuanku that the brief speech I made during the event was neither a ceramah nor was it political in nature.

“However, I have deliberated on Tuanku’s reminder last Friday, where he reiterated that no politician, Muslim or otherwise, should deliver any speech or talk within the mosque, including the mosque compound,” he said in a statement yesterday.

“In view that I had clearly breached the order by delivering a brief speech in the mosque, I therefore ask for Tuanku’s forgiveness,” he added.

The letter was personally delivered to the palace by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali on Monday.

Azmin said that Sivarasa wrote the letter because he accepted the fact that there was impudence on his part.

“I am sure he would make a wise decision to resolve the matter, and take responsibility for his action,” he told the press after attending a book launch here yesterday.

Last Friday, Sultan Sharafuddin rebuked Sivarasa, saying that the PKR lawmaker had crossed the line for not following his directive for politicians not to deliver speeches or talks in mosques.
