Man in coma after being beaten up for allegedly molesting salesgirl

ALOR SETAR: A 31-year-old man has slipped into a coma at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital after he was attacked for allegedly molesting a salesgirl at a shopping mall here.

A group of men beat up the man after he was accused of molesting a mobile phone shop worker in the women's toilet on Sunday (May 28).

Police said the accused suffered injuries and swelling to his head, eyes, and right ear.

He was bleeding in his mouth and nose, as well as suffered swelling and bruises to his right wrist.

An X-ray done showed that there is bleeding on the left side of the head which doctors believed was inflicted by a blunt object.

Kota Setar district police chief Asst Comm Mohd Rozi Jidin confirmed on Monday that the case is being investigated for molestation.

He added that the sister of the suspect also lodged a police report after the video clip of the attack had gone viral on Facebook.

The report filed by the suspect's sister is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt.

"We are also in the midst of identifying all who were involved in the incident, and we hope they can come forward to assist in investigations," he said.
