Car ploughs into hawker stalls in Penang, several injured

GEORGE TOWN: Six people were injured after a car ploughed into hawker stalls at the famous New Lane on Friday.

Those injured in the 6.30pm accident included the hawkers and customers at the food street.

It is learnt that the car was earlier involved in a minor accident with a van.

An eye-witness said the car driver, a woman, panicked and was supposed to reverse her car but accelerated it instead.

The car kept going for a few metres, hitting several stalls and people before it came to a stop at a coffee shop.

Police are investigating the case and the victims were sent to a nearby hospital.
