Pua queried over video allegedly defaming PM

KUALA LUMPUR: Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua was called up by Bukit Aman to have his statement recorded over a video posted on his Facebook page, which allegedly contained defamatory remarks against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Pua said he answered all questions from the police while the handphone that was used to record the video was confiscated.

“I have been asked to give my statement over an investigation under Section 500 of the Penal Code,” he said.

Accompanied by lawyer Lim Lip Eng, Pua arrived at the Bukit Aman police headquarters yesterday.

Najib has demanded that Pua apologise and remove a defamatory video clip that the DAP MP posted on Facebook.

In a letter of demand served on Pua on April 11, the Prime Minister’s lawyer Datuk Mohd Hafarizam Harun said the clip implied that Najib committed criminal acts and abused his power.

The video clip in question was uploaded on April 6, shortly after PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s motion to amend the Syariah Court (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 was tabled in Parliament.

Najib filed a defamation suit against Pua for making similar allegations two years ago. That suit has not been disposed of yet.
