Department drafting masterplan to support TN50

PUTRAJAYA: The Public Service Department is drafting a masterplan on the expertise and skills needed to support the Transformasi Nasional 2050 (TN50) initiative.

Its director-general Datuk Seri Zainal Rahim Seman said the department would also formulate policies related to management and human resource development.

“We have the Digital Government (e-gov), so we will need services to support this. We need experts like big data analysts,” he said in an interview yesterday to mark his 100 days in office as director-general.

He said action plans, which would list programmes like Talent Management 2017-2050, would be created via the setting up of the Talent Management Unit. It will be known as Supreme.

Asked about the negative perception of civil servants on social media, he said he held fast to the “carrot and stick” principle.

“Those who perform will be rewarded under the excellent service awards initiative. For those who fail, there is an exit policy,” he added.

On the supposedly bloated civil service, Zainal Rahim said the ratio of 1:44 was acceptable if it did not include education, security and health sector employees. — Bernama
