Swimming instructor drowns in condominium pool

KOTA KINABALU: A 31-year-old swimming instructor from Brunei drowned at a condominium pool here on Wednesday.

The victim, Muhammad Raemy Abdul Rahman, failed to resurface after diving into the pool, which led his fiancée – who was with him – to raise the alarm at about 11.40am.

City police chief Asst Comm M.Chandra said the fiancée's elder sister dove into the pool and brought him out of the pool.

Muhammad Raemy was confirmed dead at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital here 40 minutes later.

Police have ruled out foul play and the victim's cause of death has yet to be determined.

ACP Chandra said a police report was lodged at 3.05pm and a post-mortem was being conducted at the hospital.

He said Muhammad Raemy, his fiancée and her sister had come to Sabah for a three-day holiday since March 28 and were return to Bandar Seri Begawan on Thursday.

ACP Chandra said the Brunei consulate has been informed about Muhammad Raemy's death.
