TAIPING: A factory worker claimed trial in a Sessions Court here to raping his 49-year-old mother.
The 20-year-old, who is the second of five children, pleaded not guilty to committing the offence at the family’s home in Kampung Kurnia Jaya Tambahan in Kamunting here at about 7pm on March 8.
If convicted, he can be jailed up to 30 years and whipped under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code.
In asking the court not to grant bail yesterday, deputy public prosecutor Safiyatun Ahmadun said there was a possibility that the victim would be harassed by the accused since they still lived under the same roof.
Defence counsel Kathan Maruthamuthu told the court that the victim, a divorcee, had on several occasions tried to retract her police report against her son.
However, this was not allowed by the police.
Sessions Court Judge Mohd Sabri Ismail set bail at RM8,000 in one surety pending mention of the case on April 21, but the accused failed to post bail.
