Two killed after car lands in ditch

Sad end: Firemen and several passers-by trying to remove one of the bodies from the wreck near Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway.

GEORGE TOWN: Two men were killed when the car they were travelling in landed in a ditch near Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway.

The deceased were identified as businessman Noorul Hassan, 38, and Indian national Bava Mohaideen Asarudheen, 29.

It is learnt that they were heading towards George Town from Bayan Lepas when the accident happened.

However, nobody knew exactly when the accident happened, said Bayan Baru fire station operations commander Zainol Mohd Isa as they only received a call about the accident at 3.16pm yesterday.

“We got Noorul’s body out from the overturned car at 3.52pm. It took us another 30 minutes to get the other body out as it was pinned down.”

Passers-by were also seen helping to lift the car before the firemen could get the bodies out.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said Noorul could have lost control of the Honda Accord before it landed in the ditch.

He said the duo died on the spot, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving.

Some 12 firemen from the Bayan Baru and Perak Road fire stations were at the scene.
