KAJANG: Two men, one of whom was disabled, died when the car they were travelling in collided with a lorry, which had beaten a red light in Taman Pelangi, Semenyih here.
Izzaq Syameer Ifwan Suhaimi, 26, was sitting in the front seat while Sha’ari Nuruddin, 63, was in the back seat when the accident happened at a traffic light junction at 10.45am yesterday.
Driver Nur Irene Ashweena Suhaimi, 24, was also seriously injured and was sent to Hospital Kajang for treatment. Her brother Izzaq Syameer was disabled.
Semenyih Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Shairulnizam Wailie said six firefighters arrived at the scene to extricate the victims from the badly damaged vehicle.
He said the two men were pronounced dead by medical personnel from the Beranang health clinic.
Meanwhile, Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Othman Nanyan said the police had recorded the statement of a passer-by who witnessed the lorry running the red light.
“The lorry did not stop when the light turned red and crashed into the vehicle coming from the opposite direction.
“The car driver was making a turn after the traffic light turned green on her side of the road,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving.
