Motorcyclist sweeps road to prevent others from falling

A MOTORCYCLIST who fell while on his way home has voluntarily swept part of a road leading to his village.

According to Sin Chew Daily, Chen Chang Rong from Kampung Tengah in Segamat, Johor, lost control of his machine a few days ago when he rode over a section of the road covered with sand and stones.

To prevent other motorcyclists from the same fate, the 58-year-old Chen, who injured his nose and left eyebrow, borrowed a broom and a dustpan from a nearby coffee shop and started cleaning the road at around 1pm on Sunday.

A motorcyclist, known as Tong stopped to alert motorists of Chen’s presence.

Chen said although some motorcyclists and cyclists familiar with the road know how to avoid that particular section, he felt it was better to remove the sand and stones so that no one will be at risk.

> The same daily reported that a 16-year-old boy and his friend saved two cousins from drowning.

The teenager, known as Akma, and his friends were attending a lifesaving course at Tanjung Batu in Bintulu when they heard someone shouting for help at the beach at around 6pm on Sunday.

“I learned that two cousins, aged 13 and 17, were swept away by waves. I quickly grabbed a life jacket and a lifebuoy and asked a friend to come along. We got on board our kayaks and paddled out.

“After spotting them, I threw the lifebuoy to the 13-year-old victim and the life jacket to his cousin and we pulled them to our kayaks,” he said.
