KOTA KINABALU: Tenom MP Datuk Raime Unggi (pic) says the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) should widen its probe into the RM114mil graft and investigate Federal-level ministry officials as well.
He said the scope of the investigations should be widened as the approving authority for the projects was at the Federal ministry level.
"It would be strange if the ministry was not aware of the accumulation of massive wealth by two individuals," said Raime.
He said it was a practice for Federal ministries to directly appoint contractors without any involvement of the state government.
On Friday, Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kirtingan said the state had nothing to do with the RM3.3bil Federal Government allocation to the Sabah Water Department, from which a large amount has been siphoned off.
Pairin, the Sabah Infrastructure Development Minister, said the projects allocated since 2010 came under the Federal-level Rural and Regional Development Ministry.
Former Umno vice president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal held the Rural Development portfolio until 2015, when he was dropped from the Cabinet.
