Nur Jazlan: Dr M-Anwar meeting may lead to PKR members quitting party

PUTRAJAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s so-called “historic meeting” could turn off PKR supporters and may lead to some leaving the party, says Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed (pic).

The Deputy Home Minister and Umno supreme council member also rejected the notion that the reconciliation of the archrivals at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Monday would strengthen support for the Opposition.

“At the end of the day, Dr Mahathir meets Anwar to court PKR supporters. He forgot that 20 years ago many left Umno for PKR because of what he did to Anwar.

“This meeting will turn off many PKR members. It will actually help Barisan Nasional and Umno in the next general election.

“It also might be a source of unhappiness that causes them to leave PKR,” said Nur Jazlan at a press conference after opening a Home Ministry seminar on psychology security here on Tuesday.

Nur Jazlan added that Dr Mahathir’s influence had waned and many of today’s youth are not familiar with the former prime minister’s legacy.

“The Opposition have also broken apart so hard, so they had to find a unifier in Dr Mahathir,” he said.
