Don’t get caught playing Pokemon GO in the office

Pokemon question: Police are investigating the possibility that a nine-year-old boy who drowned in a river in southern Brazil was playing 'Pokemon Go' at the time.

KUALA LUMPUR: Employers have the right to dictate to employees the “dos and don’ts” of engaging in the popular Pokemon GO game during office hours.

Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot acknowledged that employers were worried that the augmented reality game could lower productivity and even affect a company’s bottom line.

“We have no laws pertaining to this but I urge employees to be more productive.

“This means not spending their time playing Pokemon GO,” he said after launching the Second Malaysia Productivity-Linked Wages Confer­ence here yesterday.

Employers, said Riot, have the right to stipulate the duties and responsibilities of employees during working hours to safeguard against workers abusing company time.

He likened it to the recent trend of companies setting rules for staff against spending idle time on the computer while in the office.

“Productivity will be affected,” he added.
