At least 39 arrested in anti-crime operation

KUALA LUMPUR: Police made 39 arrests over the two days since Ops Cantas Khas 2 was launched.

Deputy City Chief Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Hamid Mohd Ali said police checked 1,458 individuals.

“The suspects that included six women were detained in operations around the city,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said the offences included causing hurt, suspicion of theft, armed gang robbery and criminal intimidation.

“Some of them were also suspected of fraud, causing hurt with a weapon, not having proper travel documents, overstaying and causing grievous hurt using weapons or dangerous objects.

“Some were also suspected of being triad members,” he said, adding that several individuals were detained under the Prevention of Crime Act.

DCP Abdul Hamid said the operations were focused on entertainment outlets, illegal parking lots and places where people gathered.

It is learnt that the elite STAGG (Special Task Force for Anti-Vice, Gaming and Gangsterism), Stafoc (Special Task Force on Organised Crime), and Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (Sting) teams, comprising over 800 members, have been assigned to spearhead the operation to go after individuals involved in gangsterism and hired killing.
