NRD: No truth in card exchange message

Futile effort: MyPR card holders gathering at the NRD headquarters in Putrajaya after a fake message claimed they could exchange theirs for MyKads.

PETALING JAYA: There are no plans to convert red permanent resident cards to the blue ones held by Malaysian citizens, said the National Registration Department (NRD).

Earlier, thousands of people swarmed the NRD headquarters in Putrajaya after a false message, which claimed that the NRD would offer those with permanent resident status immediate citizenship if they applied yesterday, went viral through social media.

“Any dissemination of information regarding registration can only be verified by the NRD director-general and appointed officers,” it said.
