Shafie Apdal quits Umno

KOTA KINABALU: Suspended Umno vice president Datuk Mohd Shafie Apdal quit Umno on Monday.

Speaking to a large crowd holding Sabah flags at his home base of Semporna, Shafie said that he was no longer in line with the leadership in Umno.

"Saya Mohd Shafie Apdal keluar dari Umno hari ini," the 58-year-old leader said at the end of a 90-minute speech during which he outlined his loyalty to the party and his role as a founding member of Umno in Sabah.

Shafie was suspended as an Umno member on June 24 by the supreme council which also sacked deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.
