Single mum freed of drug trafficking charge

KUALA LUMPUR: A single mother of three was acquitted of trafficking in more than 2kg of methamphetamines by the High Court here on Wednesday.

Judicial Commissioner Ab Karim Ab Rahman acquitted Vo Thi Nhanh, saying the defence had succeeded in raising reasonable doubt in the prosecution's case.

Vo, who has three children, aged 15, 12 and five, was charged with trafficking in 2,120gm of methamphetamines in a room at the Sun Inns Hotel, Medan Putra Business Centre, off Jalan Damansara, here, at about 6.40pm on Oct 30, 2013.

The karaoke centre centre employee was charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

Seven prosecution witnesses and Vo testified at the trial.

DPP Siti Aisyah Ahmad prosecuted while Baljit Singh Sidhu acted for Vo.
