TNB power tracker for the people

MALACCA: Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) customers will be able to track their power usage on mobile phones with an application that will be launched in May.

They can also opt for self meter-reading where they check the estimated power consumption and update the information online, says TNB assistant general manager (service development, marketing and distribution division) Siti Sarah Johana Mohd Said (pic).

“We have a team to verify the readings posted by customers to evaluate whether they match the actual billing pattern. We will e-mail the bill to the customers who can then pay online or use other forms of payment,” she said.

Siti Sarah said the application would also allow consumers to determine the desired consumption with just a click.

“This is particularly helpful for landlords to monitor the power usage of tenants and also to check if there are outstanding bills,” she said.

Siti Sarah was among those who gave talks on TNB services and projects during a three-day media familiarisation trip which ended on Saturday.

The application is part of a new, self-service portal that provides services such as bill payments for both corporate and residential users.

“It also allows consumers to use a single sign-in to access 11 online services that previously needed separate logins, including change of tenancy,” she said.

Corporate clients could even settle their bulk payment through this method without having to do so at payment counters, she said.

Siti Sarah said the application would progress into a system where customers could manage power usage by using their mobile phone or desktop from any location to switch off their electrical appliances.

Earlier, TNB chief corporate officer Datuk Roslan Ab Rahman said that more applications would be designed to provide convenience to consumers.

Malacca, he said, was chosen by TNB previously to debut a smart meter system which provided access to real-time data on power usage and disruptions.

Meanwhile, Public Works and Utilities Committee deputy chairman Datuk Zaidi Atan said the Pulau Besar overhead power line project had become a tourist attraction in Merlimau with its 12 monopole towers.
