PAS Ulama: Woman’s role is at home

PETALING JAYA: Women should fulfill their true function as wives and mothers at home, according to the PAS Ulama central committee.

Its information chief Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali at-Takiri said the family institution needed to be restored to provide a conducive atmosphere for couples, especially wives.

He cited the high number of divorce cases which had shown that Malaysian households were increasingly broken.

“Therefore, it is appropriate that the family institution be restored by preparing and developing space and a conducive atmosphere for couples, especially wives, so that they may perform their true function at home as wives and mothers,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Khairuddin, who is also Kuala Nerus MP, said that the workload faced by both spouses in facing the rising cost of living had contributed to increased mental stress and lack of time to fill one another’s needs.

“This causes the erosion of moral values, patience, tolerance, and respect among couples, leading to divorce,” he added.
