10-year-old boy drowns in Desa Tasik public swimming pool

KUALA LUMPUR: A ten-year-old boy drowned at the public DBKL Desa Tasik swimming pool in Sungai Besi here.

In the 2.30pm incident Wednesday, a lifeguard at the pool heard screams for help and spotted the boy in trouble in the adult pool.

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Chong Kok Sin said the lifeguard dragged the boy of the pool out and performed CPR for about half an hour before paramedics arrived.

"However the boy was pronounced dead upon arrival at the University Malaya Medical Centre," he said when contacted.

He said checks showed the boy was in the 1.6m-deep adult pool, and not the shallower 0.5m-deep children's pool.

The case has been classified as sudden death.
