CRIME buster Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff is well known for his uncompromising approach in battling criminals and ensuring that justice is served. Stern yet approachable, the “anak watan Johor” (Johor born and bred) is a result oriented cop, who instils discipline, dedication and hard work among his men. Since his tenure as Johor police chief back in 2007, Comm Mohd Mokhtar is always driven to do his best and always stresses the importance of cooperation. After all, his favourite saying is “When you walk alone, you walk fast but if you walk with others, you walk further”. Now as the Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director, Comm Mohd Mokhtar is not resting on his laurels as he has a clear vision to elevate the department above and beyond expectations. He shares some of his thoughts with Sunday Star in his first exclusive interview since becoming the director in April last year.
It has been almost a year since you were appointed as NCID director. How has the past eight months shaped your outlook on the war on drugs?
