Former Umno man lodges report against Apandi

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Khairuddin Abu Hassan (pic) has lodged a police report against Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali for possible abuse of power in absolving Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak of any wrongdoing.

In a Facebook posting, the former Batu Kawan Umno vice-chairman attached a copy of the police report he lodged at Dang Wangi police headquarters on Wednesday.

"I call for the police to initiate an investigation on the A-G for any possible abuse of power, criminal negligence or manipulation," he said.

He said as an Attorney-General, Apandi should have explained the details of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) investigations to the people.

"He shouldn't have made a general statement without elaborating the MACC findings that were sent to his office.

"A comprehensive answer by the A-G is needed in order to ensure the integrity of the image and credibility of the A-G's office as we are facing a crisis of public confidence," he added.

On Tuesday, Apandi had also instructed MACC to close the files and cease investigations.

On Wednesday, MACC said it would refer the A-G's decision to two independent panels.

Khairuddin had previously made two police reports against 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and had been travelling to various countries to submit documents related to the company to authorities there probing the matter.

He had made police reports on 1MDB in Singapore, Switzerland, France and Hong Kong.

He was sacked from his position in February following his reports on 1MDB.

Khairuddin first made a police report against 1MDB on Dec 12 last year following reports in national and international media pointing to flaws in the company’s management of taxpayer funds.

He was subsequently detained under Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma) together with his lawyer Matthias Chang for attempting sabotage of the Malaysian economy and the country's financial and banking system.

However, the High Court had allowed bail for both of them as it was not a security offence.
