Najib urges Malaysians to stand united against terror threat

PETALING JAYA: In the wake of growing fears of terrorist threats, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (pic) has called on Malaysians to not speculate or spread rumours that could spark public fear regarding national security.

In a statement on Monday, Najib urged Malaysians to stand united against the threat of terrorists and not to undermine the public’s trust in Malaysia’s national security by speculation and fear-mongering.

“I am confident that every citizen who loves peace and harmony will cooperate with the Government to oppose the threat of terrorism.

“We must be united in overcoming the threat of these terrorists.

“Thus, it would be sensible if we do not speculate or spread information that could spark public concern on the level of national security,” said Najib.

He said that the National Security Council (NSC), which he chairs, viewed the threat posed by terrorists very seriously and has resolved to take measures against any terrorist effort.

“This includes the decision to introduce the National Security Council Act 2015 that enables the Government to more effectively take action in tackling terrorist incidents in the country,” he said.

He added that he would chair the NSC meeting on Tuesday to discuss security measures that have been taken as well as latest developments, including the terrorist incident in Jakarta last week.
