A GROUP of people camped outside the Pay Fong High School in Malacca to enrol their children for the new semester next year, Nanyang Siang Pau reported.

Some of the parents queued up as early as 10am on Sunday even though the registration only started the next morning, it reported.

The daily reported that the school had allocated 35 spots for the students who failed to get into the school by going through the entrance examination.

By 9am, more than 40 numbers were given out to the parents but they still chose to wait at the school until the next morning.

After the haze situation became worse, the school allowed the parents to wait in a meeting room and provided food for them.

One of the parents said he was willing to wait for long hours so that his child could study in the school.

The school, which was set up in 1913, had earlier accepted about 400 Year Six pupils for next year.

Pay Fong High School, which has about 2,200 students currently, is the only Chinese independent school in the state.

> China Press reported there was speculation that Taiwanese model and actress Lin Chi-lin (pic) was getting back with her businessman ex-boyfriend Qiu Shi Kai.
