YSLM distributor ‘honoured’ with Datuk Seri title

PETALING JAYA: As the controversy over a multi-level marketing scheme by self-proclaimed Chinese millionaire Zhang Jian continues, a senior distributor for the company, Jessy Lai, was said to have been honoured with the Darjah Sultan Ahmad Shah Pahang, which carries the title Datuk Seri.

The announcement was posted on the YSLM CDTUP’s Facebook page with pictures of Lai together with the Pahang ruler in what appears to be an investiture ceremony.

“Jessy received a medal carrying the title Datuk Seri from Sultan Pahang ... why can’t you believe it?” posted the moderator of the Facebook page.

Similar pictures of the conferment ceremony were also shared via the Facebook account on the Malaysia Youth Team website.

In a short posting on that page in Chinese, Lai wrote that she was grateful for the tremendous change that YSLM had brought to her life.

“It started with an uncomfortable feeling, but I continued with lao da’s (big brother Zhang) help. He helped and then money started to come in ... changing my life tremendously,” she said.

Lai also noted that she was touched after Zhang introduced her to “many life values”, which also enabled her to gain recognition from the country and society via her new title.

Meanwhile, the whereabouts of the self-proclaimed Chinese millionaire Zhang remains unclear despite multiple raids by the authorities at its offices across the country.

The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry had declared the companies under Zhang were not registered under the Companies Commission, and investigations showed that Zhang came to Malaysia to set up a get-rich-quick pyramid scheme through YSLM.

YSLM had refuted the allegations, stressing that it was a legal business.

Pahang palace officials could not be reached at press time to confirm Lai’s title.
